Obverse with draped bust of B.A Heywood. Reverse showing facade of the exhibition building. Date in numerals in exergue. Accompanied by a circular note that reads 'A.D 1854, This medal was sent to me as having exhibited the best water colour painting of the year at Manchester. Edward Henry Corbould' (along with a small drawing of an artists pallet and brushes).

The medal is contained within a pair of glass lunettes and as such is untouched by wear. The glass has a small crack at 6 o'clock on the obverse which has led to a small area of toning. Housed in contemporary fitted case.

Edward Henry Corbould (1815-1905) was a British artist, noted as a historical painter and water-colourist. In 1834, 1835 & 1836 he won gold medals of the society of the arts and many of his works were acquired by Queen Victoria, Prince Albert, and his royal pupils.
