About Extremely Fine and extremely rare, the gilding with a slightly matte finish. Housed in contemporary fitted case. Always popular with the first use of Wyon's portrait of Queen Victoria that was subsquently used on the first postage stamp, the Penny Black, in 1840.
BHM gives the standard silver medal a rating of R, whereas the gilt silver medal has a rating of RRRR. This medal has been XRF tested to confirm its silver content and the edge has a very small scratch that shows the silver underneath the gilding.
