BHM 4359.

32mm. Silver. By W.J Dingley.

Obverse with conjoined busts, reverse with inscription on ornate tablet within wreath, shield of Jersey below. Edge hallmarked and engraved 'I.H.M' in script.

Once lightly cleaned and therefore bright otherwise Extremely Fine and extremely rare. Unlisted in silver by BHM.

BHM does not list the maker of this medal as it seems it was unknown, however, the hallmarks on this medal confirm that it is W.J Dingley. The footnote in BHM notes that these medals were sold by Messrs C.T Maine of 35 King Street, St Helier, Jersey and the initials on the edge of this medal refer to I.H Maine. This can be confirmed by the fact that a very similar Dingley medal we have for offer, commemorating the Jubilee of 1935 (from the same source as this medal), is engraved on edge 'I.H Maine From Grandparents 1935'. This suggests that both of these two medals were likely gifted from the retailer (C.T Maine) to members of the family. The fact that BHM only lists these two medals in white metal suggests a tiny mintage for silver examples and it is possible that no more than a few silver examples were commissioned to be given as family gifts.
