Eimer 2074.
63mm. By P. Metcalfe.
Obverse with wonderful early portrait of Princess Elizabeth, reverse with facade of the Society's building. Edge plain.
This would appear to be a trial striking of the Society of Arts medal, possibly used to test the press. It is slightly oblong, in that is is wider than it is tall, and either side of the usual medal diameter has a few extra millimeters of metal. The Queen's head, and corresponding area on reverse, are weakly struck. Presumably extremely rare, if not unique.
