Obverse with young head bust of Victoria which as Brown states, is very much in the style of the Wyon bust. Reverse with wreath border but plain in the centre. This obverse was used on both the 1857 medal for the Foundation of The Royal Victoria Patriotic Asylum (BHM 2611) and the later 1876 medal to commemorate the visit of Victoria to the Whitechapel Hospital (BHM 3024). The reverse appears as though it was originally intended as some sort of pattern or trial for an award medal, with the recipient name possibly intended for inside of the wreath.
