A silver award of Frederick Temple Hamilton-Temple, Marquess of Dufferin and Ava, Viceroy of India and Burma. Obverse with arms of Dufferin with supporters, reverse with the Lord’s orders of chivalry suspended from a chain, crown above and single flag either side of heart. Engraved around border with 'Colonel Of The Royal North Down Rifles - 1891'. Edge engraved 'James R. Mitchell. 3rd Batt. R.I.R. 1891'.
Puddester lists this type as an unfinished pattern and lists it only in bronze. Bright Extremely Fine and housed in fitted Wyon case of issue. A very attractive and very rare medal.
