77mm. Bronze. By Henri Dubois.

Struck by the Monnaie de Paris and issued by the National Battlefields Commission. Obverse with Samuel de Champlain standing in small boat, sword turned in peace, dolphins and crowned monograms of Henri IV and Edward VII at sides, reverse with France personified seated by tree with Britannia. For some odd reason, the edge of this medal is stamped with '1Argent' (meaning silver), although it is clearly bronze.

About Uncirculated and housed in fitted case of issue. Rare.

Joe Foster writes in the October 2011 issue of the MCA Advisory that these medals were designed by Canadian Etienne E. Tache and struck at the Paris Mint in the fall of 1909. They were issued in bronze to those who could “prove to be a descendent of the original settlers who had arrived in New France.” Six pieces were struck in gold for high-ranking officials and dignitaries.
