Obverse with standing Maori holding spear, plough and kiwi behind, palm tree and mountains in background. Reverse showing pattern of ferns and other flora. This medal is widely regarded as the most attractive design of all the New Zealand medals.
Once lightly cleaned, now retoning. A few scattered scratches around the edge of the medal otherwise Nearly Extremely Fine and very rare.
This medal was struck at the Royal Mint. 1 example was struck in gold, 75 in silver, and 87 in bronze. The gold medal was given to the Secretary of the Exhibition, and the others to exhibitors. The Commissioners awarded themselves silver medals.
