Convict token made from Halfpenny that has been smoothed and engraved.
Obverse with view of sail ship, engraved around 'Samuel Fenn Aged 45', reverse engraved 'When this you see - Remember Me - William Fenn - Aged 17 March 9th 1833'.
Of very high quality and overall Extremely Fine. A wonderfully emotive piece, particularly as one suspects that the Samuel Fenn referenced on the obverse would probably be this young convict's father.
This convict token is thought to refer to William Fenn, born in Birmingham in 1816, who arrived in New South Wales, Australia on 11th June 1834 on the ship Hive. Records show that he was tried in Warwick, where he was sentenced to 14 years transportation for housebreaking.
