A very rare specimen striking of the 1842 Candahar, Ghuznee, Cabul medal. Gilt and housed in glass lunettes.
The medal was approved by General Order at Simla by the Honourable East India Company on 4 October 1842. Approximately 22,100 were awarded, about 4,400 to members of the British Army and 17,700 to the mainly native forces of the Honourable East India Company, however it is not known how many of these specimen issues were produced, although the number is certain to be very low.
A superb medal and mint state.
