Extremely Fine and very rare.
A petition from the scholars of the school was submitted to Queen Victoria in May 1847 'praying for some kind of Royal Favor so long coveted by the late DR. Arnold'. A gold medal to the value of £8 was subsequently granted as an annual prize for the study of modern history. Gold medals are known for at least Queen Victoria and King George V but this is the only Elizabeth II example we have been able to source.
