The Spirit of Music. Paris mint. Unissued silver award medal of Orpheus struck for the Universal Exhibition of 1900 in Paris. Obverse with bust of Orpheus facing three-quarter left holding cithara, with laurel tree behind appearing to crown him. Reverse with winged Genius sitting on uninscribed pedestal with scroll, leaning back and holding clarion and quill, with violin below on laurel wreath. Edge stamped argent.
A wonderfully evocative medal and rare in silver. Scattered surface marks and some scratches within reverse tablet, otherwise Good very Fine.
