36mm. 32.5g. By Ian Rank-Broadley.
The Queen's Service Medal is a civil award within New Zealand, awarded by the government to recognise and reward volunteer service to the community and also public service in elected or appointed public office. It was established in 1975 and is related to the Queen's Service Order. The QSM replaced the Imperial Service Medal as an award of New Zealand.
This version is a prototype of the medal that was produced by Thomas Fattorini Ltd of Birmingham for the medal designer Ian Rank-Broadley, to see the quality of relief on the portrait. The portrait was eventually used for the New Zealand Gallantry Medal but not for the Queen's Service Medal.
This medal is from the personal collection of Ian Rank-Broadley and is probably unique.
